  Fur Design Competition 2015 Eccentric Creations Epitomize Fur Flair at ‘Hong Kong Fur Design Competition 2015’   Fur never stops inspiring. 24 budding local design talents flaunt their eccentric creativity to illustrate the charisma of fur while vying for honor and awards at the ‘Hong Kong Fur Design Competition 2015’. Organized by the Young Executive Committee (YEC) of the Hong Kong Fur Federation (HKFF), the annual event held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on 8 January (Thursday).   “Over the years the Fur Design Competition has become an invaluable cradle nurturing new blood for our industry. Not only does the contest kindle interest in fur design and encourage originality among design students, it also offers them opportunity to understand the production operation and technique of our trade via collaborating with the Federation’s members. Notably, the outstanding achievement of our winning designs in international competitions in recent years is a recognition of the Hong Kong fur industry,” said Mr. Cyril Fong, Chairman of YEC.   “For years fur apparel from Hong Kong has established a leading position in the global arena, with the success attributed to our ingenious craftsmanship and modish design. I believe our competition will persist to inspire original creation which keeps fur from Hong Kong thriving on the international stage,” said Mr. Wilson Chiu, Chairman of HKFF.   This year, the Competition drawn in an enthusiastic submission of 425 sketches, with 17 from the Full Fur Category and 9 from the Fur Combination Category eventually screened for the final judging. In the last two months, shortlisted designers worked closely with the Federation’s members in making up their competing garments. According to ‘originality & creativity’, ‘commercial value & marketability’, ‘workmanship’, ‘application of fur materials’, and ‘overall design concept’, seven prizes will be awarded for the Full Fur Category and Fur Combination Category, including ‘My Favorite Fur Sketch’ voted by netizens on the Hong Kong Fur Design Competition's Facebook fan page.   This year the judging panel is comprised of the Consul General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hong Kong and Macao SARs, Mr. Nurzhan Abdymomunov; Trade Commissioner of Italian Trade Commission in the HKSAR, Ms. Paola Guida; Asia Head of Marketing of Saga Furs Oyj, Ms. Nora Tse; President and CEO of American Legend Cooperative, Mr. Joe Morelli; Sourcing and Buying Chief of Kopenhagen Fur, Ms. Mai Ebdrup; renowned fashion designer, Ms. Bonita Cheung; famous artist, Ms. Linda Chung; famous socialites in town including Mrs. May Lui, Mr. Brandon Chau and Ms. Helen Ma.   The presentation theme ‘Nouveau Metropolitan’ depicting exhilarating facets of world-known cities will play backdrop for the fabulous creations to be strutted in three scenes. Raising the curtain is ‘Phoenix’, featuring chic fur ensembles in vibrant colors reminiscent of the animated city. The uniqueness of ‘New York’ is epitomized by avant-garde styles in streamline and clear-cut silhouettes in the second scene, while the final scene ‘Manhattan’ captures the grandeur of night parties and clubbing mood in a selection of magnificent evening dresses.   On top of the exciting presentation from these competing entries, the “Designers Love Fur” epilogue will be equally anticipating. Joining force with members of the Hong Kong Fur Federation to present this distinctive collection are five designers, namely: Ms. Lu Lu Cheung, Mr. Holly Lai, Mr. Hei Lau, Ms. Hidy Ng, and Mr. Benny Yeung.     Likewise, scores of the city’s fashion icons and designers gathered in the venue to witness the latest fur fashion trends. Celebrities including Ms. Linda Chung, Ms. Sisley Choi, Ms. Rebecca Zhu, Ms. Elva Ni and Ms. Bonnie Sin. Socialites including Mr. and Mrs. Brandon and Jenny Chau, Ms. Anina Ho, Mr. Ryan Sun, Mr. Howard Chao, Ms. Donna Chu, Mrs. Olivia Davies, Mr. Charles Yang, Mrs. Lucy Yang, Ms. Helen Ma, Mrs. May Lui, Mrs. Reina Chau, Mrs. Nina Lam, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Chan, Dr. and Mrs. Dan Kong, Mrs. Janice Kwan Choi, Mrs. Helen Fong, Ms. Maria Wu, Ms. Yumi Honda, Ms. Helen Rong, Ms. Yvette Yung, Ms. Judy Mann, and Mr. Andy Wong, etc.   Special thanks to the Hong Kong Fashion Designers Association for its support for the “Designers Love Fur” project.   –  END  –
